stress makes an upward graph. In olden
days when life was simple and natural,
stress was a rare phenomenon. People

Aloe
Vera
Aloe Vera is short-stemmed
succulent plant, native to northern
Africa. It normally grows to about 100
cm. It is easy to cultivate Aloe vera
in frost-free climates. It can also
be cultivated as a potted plant, but
care has to be taken by enabling seepage
through drainage holes in the pot. It
should be allowed to completely dry
and should be watered only then. During
winter, it requires very less water
and it the region is snowy, it should
be kept indoors or in a heated glasshouse.
It is one of the richest known medicinal
herbs and is sometimes used as an ornamental
plant.
The gel of Aloe Vera
is used to conserve fruits and vegetables.
It is a wonderful option when compared
to the synthetic preservatives like
sulphur dioxide available in the market.
The gel also does not effect the food
products since it is to stolen, colourless
and odourless.

Neem:
A panacea for all ills
S. Rajasekharan and P. G. Latha
Vedic
literature is perhaps the earliest document
of plant life. It has been recorded
that plant life began to flourish on
the Earth three yugas ago, which means
many thousands of years, before the
time of the Devas. Vedic scholars had
deep insight and intuition, by which
they unravelled the hidden values and
greatness of plants. They considered
plants to be of divine origin and worshipped
them as the “Mother Goddess”,
by chanting verses (‘Oushathi
sookthas’), in praise of them.

Motherhood
and Healthy Post-natal Care
The
entry of a new human being into this
universe is always a pleasant one but
with some reservations. Population Explosion,
parental care feasibility and gender
thoughts are some of the issues which
are a part of the present system. Along
with this there are other issues also
that arise like Healthy post-natal care
for mother and eventually it amounts
to have enough energy to take care of
ones baby. Giving birth is both exhausting

SURGERY
IN AYURVEDA
There
is mention about surgery , in Kerala’s
Ayurvedic tradition and books. The great
saint and physician Susruta is considered
as the pioneer.
However
it appears that the physicians confined
themselves to minor surgeries and never
dared to undertake complicated ones.
Using a well sharpened piece of glass
or metal to make incisions for bleeding
the patients – Sirovedam as treatment
for hypertension or removing pus and
blood in case of edema were common.
